Don't Wait to Get the Help You Need

Celebrations, Resolutions and Moving Forward

Another holiday season is upon us as we get ready to celebrate with family and friends, contemplate how many cookies we can get away with eating, and plan what resolutions we’ll make for the New Year. Rather than making a resolution that may be forgotten January 2nd I’ve made a promise to myself (and yes, to me their is a difference:-) I want to find balance in my life. I want to be healthy not only in body but mind and spirit. I want to be the best version of myself and part of this journey will be figuring out what that means to me and how do I go about reaching this goal.

I’ve started working on following my passions which include opening up my Private Practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor and completing my certification as a Holistic Health & Wellness Coach. While these are vocational in nature my hope is that they will also allow me to follow other life passions which will include family, friends and hopefully many new adventures.

I decided a long time ago that my chronic illness would NOT define me rather it would be an aspect of my life that would show me I had strength I wasn’t aware of, a sense of humor that would hold me in good stead over the years and a desire for empowering others to envision and become their best selves.

What do you see when you think about your best self? This isn’t about everything or anyone being perfect because that is not how life works. It’s also okay to NOT be okay all the time. Allow yourself to feel your emotions, grieve if that is needed, and understand that there will be things not in your control. What matters is what do you do with what is within your control? I challenge everyone myself included to focus on what you can do/what you do have rather than on what you can’t do/what you don’t have. At the end of every day identify at least 3 positive things that happened to you, because of you, that made you smile and/or that made you feel good. Yes, it can take practice and yes, it can work.

I’ll start for today: I had lunch with my aunt today who is going through her own struggles and she thanked me for meeting up because it helped her. I got my nails done (Merry early Christmas to me) and I watched Charlie Brown’s Christmas special (and don’t judge me).

As always, remember Every Day Is A New Beginning. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s from my house to yours.
